NFL player is axed five days after being shot

After suffering minor injuries in a recent shooting, Sebastian Tretola has been waived by the Tennessee Titans.

The Tennessee Titans waived guard Sebastian Tretola on Friday, five days after he was shot in the lower leg.

Tretola, a sixth-round pick in the 2016 draft who saw action in one game as a rookie, was treated and released from an Arkansas hospital Sunday morning after he suffered "minor injuries" in the shooting.

He was waived Friday with a non-football injury designation.

The shooting was not Tretola's first off-field incident.

He and Titans receiver Tajae Sharpe have been accused of assaulting a man in April outside a bar in Nashville. No charges have been filed, and, according to ESPN, the case is being investigated as a civil matter.

Tennessee announced that linebacker Erik Walden had taken Tretola's roster spot.

"First of all, [Tretola] couldn't practice with the injury that he had," Titans coach Mike Mularkey said.

"Second, he made some poor decisions and it wasn't strictly the two offseason incidents that made that decision."

The Titans begin practice on Saturday.
