Burgess is contracted to the Rabbitohs until the end of 2018, but the England international has travelled to the United States to look into a potential change of sports.

Jarryd Hayne turned his back on the NRL to try his luck in NFL with the San Francisco 49ers and Burgess would be open to following his lead.

"I went out there and met a few people, but there's nothing at the moment," Burgess told Triple M's Sunday NRL.

"I have some contacts that I'll probably get in touch with throughout the year."

He added: "One thing I've always said is that it can't hurt me to go and have a look at things, and I'll definitely keep an eye on it. It's something that's still on my mind,

"For me, it's more about the life experience.

"I like going out there and travelling and meeting new people, and if I got an opportunity to do that through work, I'd be pretty stupid not to take it."
