Johnny Manziel speaks out about his alcohol issues

Failed NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel has opened up on a tough 2016 via a series of Twitter posts.

Johnny Manziel has often made the headlines for the wrong reasons since being drafted as a first-round pick by Cleveland Browns in 2014 and he admits that in 2016 he "got lost in the sauce".

Much was expected of Manziel when the Browns made him the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 draft, but things have not played out so well for the quarterback.

His last NFL appearance came in 2015 and the Browns released him from his contract in March 2016.

Manziel has been caught up in several off-field misdemeanours, but the 24-year-old took to Twitter to apologise for his past behaviour.

"No lie.. I was a douche in 2016 I'm just trying to be a good PERSON again#LostInTheSauce," he wrote.

"Haven't been this happy in a long time man. I appreciate all the people in my life who reached out during the truly rough patches in '16."

Manziel also dispelled rumours that he would be charging $50 to take selfies with him during Super Bowl week.

"Just had this brought to to my attention. I'm not charging a penny for a damn "selfie" at the super bowl. Dumbest thing I've ever heard," he added.

"I'm doing this signing for the people (especially Texans) who have stuck with me through all the mistakes I've made these past years #tru."
