Goddard, 19, was taken in an ambulance to a nearby hospital after collapsing at the Maroochydore Multisport Complex after a strenuous running exercise.

It is believed the second-year player suffered from heat exhaustion in the hot Sunshine Coast conditions

Goddard was comforted with water and cold towels by the Saints coaching staff before paramedics inserted an intravenous saline drip.

St Kilda general manager Jamie Cox revealed Goddard was recovering well and wouldn't be affected long-term by the incident.

"Hugh pushed himself probably a little too hard," Cox said.

"He suffered the effects of the sun and he has had to be taken to hospital just to be monitored.

"We can fortunately say he is going okay. He will stay in tonight but he's doing really well, which is pleasing."

Goddard was kept in hospital overnight to have his condition monitored.
